Hand-Carved Mukwa Elephant — Ndlovu (Small)

AED 50.00

Hand-carved mukwa wood elephant sculpture, made in Zimbabwe.

Compact, rounded, unhurried. The Ndlovu is carved from a single piece of mukwa in a deliberately simplified form all soft volume and smooth continuous surface, the elephant reduced to its essential character rather than its anatomical detail. The trunk curls downward and to one side, the ears fold flush against the body, the legs tuck beneath the mass of the torso. Nothing protrudes unnecessarily. Everything is considered.

A single concentric circle, hand-etched at the eye, is the only decorative mark on an otherwise uninterrupted surface. It is enough.

The warm, open grain of the mukwa does the rest catching light differently across the flanks and back, the wood's natural variation giving each piece a finish that cannot be replicated. Small enough for a shelf, a desk, or a bedside table. The kind of object that gets picked up.

Details

Material: Hand-carved mukwa (African teak) hardwood. Natural grain variation means no two pieces are identical.

Dimensions: Approximately 12cm width × 8cm height.

Care: Dust with a soft dry cloth. Condition occasionally with a small amount of natural wood oil to maintain the warm tone of the mukwa.
