Hand-Carved Mukwa Guinea Fowl — Hanga (Medium)

AED 75.00

Hand-turned mukwa with an ebony beak.

A hand-turned wooden guinea fowl hanga in Shona its rounded body shaped in warm mukwa, the slender head and beak finished in dark ebony. The body is lightly pricked with hot-iron spots replicating the bird's signature plumage a detail that requires a steady hand and is applied one mark at a time.

The guinea fowl is one of Zimbabwe's most familiar presences, as common in the bush as it is in Shona craft tradition. This medium-sized rendering captures the bird's distinctive silhouette with quiet fidelity: the full, low-slung body, the upright neck, the small proud head. Polished to a smooth finish that lets the mukwa's natural grain show through. Sculpted by a Zimbabwean carver to sit on a shelf, console, or stack of books.
