Pamusha

Kudzai is a British multidisciplinary designer and a practicing, ARB RIBA-chartered architect, and the founder of Pamusha, a word that translates to 'At Home' in chiShona, a Niger-Congo language and her mother tongue, native to Zimbabwe. In African culture, pamusha/kumusha, the village, the homestead, the spaces of home and origin, are precious. Yet the spaces and objects that inhabit them have long been dismissed as relics of the past. Pamusha was founded to change that perception entirely, reframing these spaces and the objects that emerge from them as something vital, considered, and very much of the present. As a designer, Kudzai has always known that the craft, natural materials, and cultural depth of rural African living are not relics of the past. They are the very foundation of what meaningful, considered design looks like today, honouring sustainability, culture, and the enduring beauty of the natural world. African interiors have always possessed a warmth, a craftsmanship, and a deeply held relationship to material and meaning that the wider world has been slow to recognise. Pamusha exists to change that, to place African living exactly where it belongs: in the same conversation as the world's most considered, most beautiful interiors.

Her path to interiors began in the language of fabric. Raised in London, Kudzai was drawn early to the intimacy of fabric, the weight of linen, the whisper of silk, spending summers lost in the quiet rituals of her sewing machine, teaching herself embroidery and appliqué, and learning, stitch by stitch, how cloth breathes when it finally finds its form. It was a natural obsession that she pursued formally, studying Textiles at school before going on to study Fine Art with a major in Textiles at college in London. Those years shaped not just her eye but her instincts, for texture, for craft, for the way a material can carry meaning far beyond its surface. She went on to work with designers and clients at London Fashion Week and African Fashion Week, and interned at a London PR house, gaining an understanding of how creative work is brought into the world and the audiences it can reach. Architecture became the natural next chapter, giving her the spatial language to bring everything together. The understanding of form, structure, and atmosphere she had spent years cultivating through fabric, fine art, and fashion found its fullest expression here. Her practice, shaped within some of the world's most prestigious and celebrated design studios including Foster + Partners, and the globally recognised design NGO Article 25, this gave her an advanced and intimate understanding of buildings, interior spaces, and the objects that animate them. Alongside this, Kudzai consults on project management for projects, bringing the same rigour and structure that underpins her architectural work to the delivery of considered spaces. It is this breadth of experience, lived and practiced across disciplines and continents, that shapes every space she touches.

Her work at Pamusha moves fluidly between interiors, furniture, textiles, and spatial objects. Each piece carries the same intent, to bring the essence of African living into the home and into contemporary space, with the craft, the care, and the quiet confidence it has always deserved.
