Artisan Baskets
Tonga Basket — Mavambo Diamond(Medium)
AED 500.00
Hand-woven ilala palm with a natural rim.
Displaying exceptional structural balance, this medium, bowl-shaped basket is patiently hand-woven by the Masvingo Women Weavers in Zimbabwe. The design features a crisp outer border of interlocking, harlequin-style diamonds that encircle the piece like a patterned ribbon. This repetitive, dark geometric frame leaves a generous center of un-dyed, sun-kissed natural fiber to take center stage around the prominent square rosette, all beautifully finished with a clean, un-dyed woven rim.
Every element connects back to the landscape. Handcrafted from sustainably gathered ilala palm leaves, wild grasses, and reeds, the rich, charcoal-brown tones of the pattern are achieved through a slow, traditional dyeing process using local tree bark and roots. Shaped by human hands rather than a mold, its slight organic variations make it completely unique. It is a functional piece of cultural art imbued with generational skill crafted to bring warmth, texture, and a sense of story to contemporary walls or tabletops.
