Tonga Basket — Umber Lattice Ripple (Small)
AED 300.00
Hand-woven ilala palm with a dyed rim.
An intricate display of geometric harmony, this small, bowl-shaped basket is patiently hand-woven by the Masvingo Women Weavers in Zimbabwe. The design features a dynamic, wide-reaching network of dark zigzag lines that mimic a woven lattice or the sharp ripples of desert dunes. This sweeping graphic layer balances beautifully against the serene natural tones of the inner bowl and its central square rosette, all framed by a rich, deep rust-dyed outer rim.
Every element connects back to the landscape. Handcrafted from sustainably gathered ilala palm leaves, wild grasses, and reeds, the deep charcoal and warm rust tones are achieved through a slow, traditional dyeing process using local tree bark and roots. Shaped by human hands rather than a mold, its slight organic variations make it completely unique. It is a small but powerful piece of cultural art, imbued with generational skill crafted to bring warmth, texture, and a sense of story to contemporary walls or curated tabletops.
