Totem Salad Servers - Hand-Carved in Mukwa (Set of 2)

AED 200.00

Handmade mukwa wood and ebony salad servers, carved in Zimbabwe.

A functional work of craft, this two-piece serving set is hand-carved from sustainably sourced mukwa a warm-grained hardwood prized across Southern Africa for its durability and rich, honey-toned finish. Each piece is individually worked from a single length of timber, the broad serving head tapering into a geometric neck before meeting a distinctly sculptural ebony handle. The handle's oval loop form and small figurative base carving speak directly to a Zimbabwean craft lineage, where utilitarian objects are elevated through the same vocabulary of form used in ceremonial and decorative work.

The pairing of two woods is deliberate: the teak-warm mukwa catches light differently across its grain, while the dark ebony grounds each piece with weight and contrast. The crescent relief carvings along the neck repeated in an ascending rhythm add tactile detail that is felt as much as seen. These are objects that belong at a table set with intention.

Details

Material: Hand-carved mukwa (African teak) and ebony hardwood. No two sets are identical; natural grain variation and minor tool marks are intrinsic to the handmade character of each piece.

Dimensions: Approximately 30cm length each. Spoon and fork supplied as a set.

Care: Hand wash only with mild soap and warm water. Do not soak or place in a dishwasher. Condition periodically with food-safe mineral oil or beeswax to maintain the wood's natural lustre and prevent drying.
